Purpose: To develop learners' resilience, self-esteem, confidence and communication skills. To connect learners to their place within the wider environment and ultimately to build knowledge that their contribution to the world is valued and can be impactful in a positive way. To build on the key competencies of Te Mātaiaho: Thinking; using language, symbols and texts: managing self: relating to others; participating and contributing.
This will be achieved through participation in a forest-based programme that allows for a learner-led, play-based activities that build on their inherent interests, skills and the subject-based knowledge that they already have. Kaiako will untilise reciprocal and responsive pedagogical practice on sessions and a model of "notice, recognise and respond" observations for reflective planning purposes. This planning will be connected with Te Mātaiaho elements, Understand, Know, Do in order to tailor available activities to meet and build on the needs of learners, week-to-week, in line with appropriate curriculum areas.
Time: 2 hours per week, per class/group
