Te Horo School is a country school set in a picturesque rural area between Ōtaki and Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast. Te Horo School is unique in the fact that despite its proximity to Wellington, it is able to maintain all the traditions of a country school.
We pride ourselves on our school-wide events such as Lamb and Calf Day, this is when children bring their animals to school, feeding and caring for them onsite.
This day also includes growing and tending to flower or vegetable gardens. Other special events include our annual school fair “Paddy’s Mart” which is led by our
Home & School committee and is an event that the wider community looks forward to. Our tree planting for Matariki breakfast is an event where we can view
the Mataraki stars and think of those who have been at the school before us and those who have passed on, sharing a picnic breakfast with those who are here
now. We have a special ANZAC service to honour those fallen from our area.
Our children enjoy many educational opportunities that take them outside of the classroom including a relationship with Te Kahui Tokotoko - the local Otaki Schools. We are building links with Katihiku Marae, have a talented Kapa Haka and school choir. Year 6 Camp and Year 8 Camp grow our students' independence and encourage them to challenge themselves physically, along with Ōtaki and Kapiti interschool sporting events, Cross Country, Swimming Sports, Athletics Day and Tabloid Sports to name a few.
EPro 8, Otago Maths and Mastermind give the students an opportunity to stretch their mind. Our Year 7 & 8 children engage in Technology learning onsite and we
are resourced to teach Digital Technologies, Cooking, Sewing and Building as part of our Technology programme.
The children can explore our bush reserve, spend time in our school pool, while away the time in our fruit and vegetable gardens and look for hidden chicken eggs! We encourage children to learn in and enjoy their local environment.
Teaching and learning at Te Horo school grows our students from year 1 (5 year olds) to year 8 (12 year olds), we operate as a whole school which we believe encourages the tuakana/teina relationship; older children have a younger buddy whom they care for and look out for while they are at school. We aim to each collaboratively so that we can utilise teacher strengths and cater to the diverse learning needs of our children.
Our HEART values are unique to Te Horo School and we model the values in all of our day to day interactions with each other. We have courage, we are empathetic, we have a sense of fun, we show respect and we are tolerant. Students are supported to behave in a way that ensures that our school is a safe and enjoyable space for everyone.

Ag-Day Lamb Care Workshop – RSVP to the School Office
Vets on Riverbank have kindly offered to continue providing free Ag-Day lamb consults at their clinic this year for all Ag Day participants. These consults cover key areas such as vaccination, castration, and tail docking.

In addition, to help reduce the number of unwell lambs, Rachel (a vet from Vets on Riverbank) is offering a lamb care education session for students and their parents. This workshop will cover:

Important Health Notice: Impetigo (School Sores)
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We would like to inform you that cases of impetigo (commonly known as school sores) have been diagnosed within our school community.
Impetigo is a contagious skin infection that is most commonly seen in children. It appears as red sores or blisters, usually around the nose and mouth, and can spread through direct contact or by sharing items like towels or clothing.
We kindly ask all parents and caregivers to be vigilant and check their children for any signs of infection. If you suspect your child may have impetigo, please consult your doctor promptly and keep your child at home until they are no longer contagious.

Egg Orders - ($8 for 1 dozen free range eggs) Orders to the school office by 10am Wednesday morning - Email or by phone orders are welcome. These eggs are delicious and so fresh, they are supplied by the "Big Egg" in Otaki - For every dozen that the school sells they donate $1 back to the school!! ????????

Whole School Assembly - In the school Hall at 2pm - All parents and caregivers are welcome to join us - Also there will be a very special choir performance during the assembly.
Pizza Orders (Fundraising for Year 6 & 8 Camp) - Orders for this Friday 1st of August need to be placed at the school office on Thursday morning by 9am - 1 piece of Pizza $3 or 2 pieces for $5. Cash only please, in an envelope with your name, room number & choice of pizza. Pizza options are Cheese, Hawaiian, Ham & Cheese & Pepperoni. We still need parents to help us with pizza collections, please contact the school office if you are able to do this. We would be most grateful.

Barbie Club - Barbie club would be most grateful for any donations of loom bands. If you have any unwanted loom bands lying around please send them to the school office. Thanks in advance.
Paddy's Mart - Planning is underway for Paddy's Mart and Home and School would love your support. Donations of Bric a brac are now welcome to be dropped off at the school office. Weekly flyer update to follow tomorrow.
Ag Day 11th November - Orphan lambs now available!! We have been contacted by a local farmer that now has orphan lambs available, please contact the school office if you would like the contact details.
Registrations for Ag Day are now open, if your child has a lamb or calf already please contact the school office to register and to request a project booklet.
